JAVELIN COACHING

I qualified as an Athletics Coach in 2016 and currently work with my own group of young athletes weekly. I have coached at various athletics camps (AASE / Youth Talent Programme / Loughborough University throws camps / Regional England Athletics camps / England Throws Camps) and enjoy learning about javelin throwing.

I have a personal background in the javelin and retired in 2017 with a PB of 49.56m. My proudest moments were winning English Schools in 2012 and making a PB comeback from my two shoulder surgeries in 2013 and 2015. I am also one of 16 women who are part of the UK Coaching 'Women In High Performance Sport Programme' through which I have access to fantastic mentors and a great network of reflective coaches across the UK.

COVID-19: I am ensuring I am working within the England Athletics guidelines with all athletes.

PERFORMOBILITY COACHING INCLUDES:

INJURY & POSTURE

SCREENING

As a Sports Massage Therapist, I do posture screening and assessments on a daily basis. This will be one of the first things I will do to get a snapshot of where the athlete excels and lacks.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING PROGRAMMING

Having attained UKSCA accreditation in 2018, I periodise training based on a range of factors, but this is predominantly based on where the athlete is at in terms of their development and any limiting factors they may have.

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SKILLS

Think of these type of exercises as providing you with a stable base with which you can build a resilient body to take the demands of javelin.

FLEXIBILITY & MOBILITY PROGRAMME

Flexibility is very different to mobility. The initial screening will provide guidance on where an athlete requires length and strength through different ranges of motion.

JAVELIN TECHNIQUE & PROGRAMME

A programme will be created based on the individual athlete's needs and movement screening, including links and photos. Education on the javelin technical model with drills to supplement the learning of new skills.

COMPETITION PLANNING

Competition plans will be discussed with the athlete and with their goals in mind, ensuring training peaks and tapers accordingly.

1.5 HOUR SESSIONS

Each session includes functional movement warm up, flexibility and mobility, potentiation and drills, followed by throws / testing / circuits and cool down.
